SQL in Microsoft Access: Day 1

Service Description

SQL in Microsoft Access: Day 1 introduces participants to the fundamentals of Structured Query Language (SQL) within Microsoft Access. This hands-on course is the first half of a two-day SQL training program designed to take Access users from working with graphical queries to understanding and writing SQL statements themselves. Participants will learn how Access translates queries into SQL and how to create, read, and modify SQL statements to retrieve, filter, sort, calculate, and summarize database information. Working with practical database examples, participants will build SQL statements step by step and develop the foundation needed for the more advanced querying techniques covered on Day 2. Day 1 topics include: understanding SQL and SQL View in Access; SELECT and FROM statements; selecting fields and records; WHERE criteria; comparison and logical operators; AND, OR, NOT, BETWEEN, IN, and LIKE; sorting with ORDER BY; calculated fields and expressions; aliases; aggregate functions including SUM, AVG, COUNT, MIN, and MAX; GROUP BY; and translating Access Query Design into SQL. Who should attend: Microsoft Access users who have experience working with tables and queries and want to learn how to read and write SQL. No previous SQL programming experience is required.
